Osaka Itinerary 2 Days

Osaka Itinerary 2 Days

Day 2 — Shinsekai, Umeda, Day Trip Option

Morning: Shinsekai (9:00–11:00)

Osaka’s most interesting neighborhood for atmosphere. Walk the retro streets, see the Tsutenkaku Tower, have kushikatsu for breakfast (Osaka rules — no wrong time for kushikatsu).

The neighborhood is at its most authentic in the morning before tourists arrive.

Mid-Morning: Umeda Sky Building (11:00–13:00)

Take the train to Umeda (20 minutes). The Sky Building’s floating garden observatory is one of Japan’s most striking architectural experiences. Views on clear days extend to mountains.

¥1,500. Allow 1 hour.

Afternoon: Choose Your Osaka

Option A — Day Trip to Nara (13:00–18:00)

Train to Nara: 45 minutes. Deer park and giant Buddha. The deer bow for crackers. Perfect afternoon excursion.

Option B — Deeper Osaka

  • Nakatsu neighborhood: Local restaurants, smaller than Namba, more authentic
  • Tennoji: Zoo, garden, excellent budget shopping district (one of Japan’s cheapest)
  • Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan: One of the world’s largest aquariums

Evening: Farewell Osaka

Return to Dotonbori area. One last okonomiyaki. Pack omiyage (Osaka souvenirs): takoyaki snacks, Osaka-style pocky, Baumkuchen from Dotonbori confectionery shops.
