Bali’s Two Seasons

Dry Season (April–October) ⭐

  • Humidity: Moderate
  • Rain: Minimal, mostly clear skies
  • Temperature: 27–32°C
  • Crowds: High (July–August very busy)
  • Prices: Higher than wet season

The best time overall. Ideal for beaches, surfing, hiking, and outdoor activities. July–August brings Australian and European school holiday crowds — book well ahead.

Wet Season (November–March)

  • Humidity: High
  • Rain: Afternoon rain showers most days (usually 1–3 hours)
  • Temperature: 28–33°C (warmer than dry season)
  • Crowds: Lower (except Christmas/New Year)
  • Prices: 20–40% cheaper accommodation

Wet season in Bali is more manageable than in many other tropical destinations. Mornings are often clear and sunny. Rain usually comes in the afternoon or evening. Rice fields are vivid green. Waterfalls are at their most impressive. Good value.

Best Time for Specific Activities

Surfing: April–October for most beaches. Beginners: Kuta and Seminyak year-round. Advanced: Uluwatu and Padang Padang peak May–September.

Diving and snorkeling: April–November. Best visibility June–August.

Hiking Mount Batur: Year-round but dry season (April–October) gives clearer sunrise views.

Rice terraces (Ubud): Wet season (Nov–March) when terraces are vivid green and full of water. Dry season is also good.

Waterfalls: Wet season maximizes water flow. Gitgit, Sekumpul, Tegenungan are all best in wet season.

Yoga retreats and wellness: Year-round — Ubud’s wellness industry doesn’t stop for rain.

Bali by Area: Does the Weather Differ?

Not dramatically — Bali is a small island. But there are subtle differences:

Ubud (central highlands): Cooler than the coast (24–28°C), more rain year-round due to elevation. Lush and green even in dry season.

Seminyak/Canggu/Kuta (south coast): Sea breezes moderate the heat. Best beach weather April–October.

Uluwatu/Bukit Peninsula (south): Drier than the rest of Bali. Beach clubs and surf breaks year-round.

Amed/Candidasa (east): Drier than Ubud, good diving year-round.
