Highway Bus: Best for Budget
Tokyo–Osaka: ¥3,000–5,000 vs ¥14,720 shinkansen. The saving is enormous. Modern buses have reclining seats, USB charging, WiFi. Overnight buses save both transport and accommodation cost.
When to Choose Bus
- Budget travel — bus costs 1/3 to 1/5 of shinkansen
- Overnight journeys to save accommodation cost
- Rural destinations not served by train (Shirakawa-go, some national parks)
