What’s Still at Tsukiji

The inner wholesale market moved to Toyosu in 2018, but the Tsukiji Outer Market (gaijō) remains one of Tokyo’s best food experiences — 400+ shops and restaurants best experienced at breakfast.

What to Eat

Tuna sashimi/sushi for breakfast: Multiple small sushi restaurants open from 5am. Fresh tuna, direct from auction. ¥1,500–4,000 for a full breakfast set.
Tamagoyaki: Sweet dashi-flavored omelette on a stick. ¥150–300. Multiple competing stalls.
Fresh oysters: Shucked on the spot with lemon. ¥200–350 each.
Uni (sea urchin) on rice: ¥800–1,500 at premium stalls.
Crab grilled over charcoal: Several stalls on the outer perimeter.

Best Visiting Time

Arrive 7–9am for the best experience — stalls set up, chefs at work, complete breakfast available. By 11am many fresh items are sold out.

Getting There

Walk from Higashi-Ginza (Hibiya/Asakusa Metro lines, 5 min) or taxi from Ginza. No direct station — nearest is Tsukijishijo on Oedo Line. — book via Kiwitaxi for the best deal.
