Niseko Ski Resort Guide

Niseko Ski Resort Guide

Japan’s Premier Powder Destination

Niseko in Hokkaido averages 15 meters of snow per season — some of the world’s best powder. Transformed over 20 years into an internationally sophisticated destination while maintaining access to Hokkaido’s extraordinary champagne powder.

The Ski Area

Niseko United combines four interconnected resorts: Hanazono, Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village, and Annupuri. 60+ runs, 30+ lifts, terrain for all abilities. Single Grand Hirafu–Niseko Village–Annupuri lift pass covers most terrain.

The Powder

Cold, dry powder from the Sea of Japan — extremely light. Standard powder depth when good: 30–60cm of new snow per storm. Night skiing when powder is fresh (Grand Hirafu stays open until 11pm) is world-class.

Lift Passes

All Mountain Pass (4 resorts): ¥8,000–12,000/day depending on season. Book online in advance for 10–15% discount.

Best For

Intermediate to advanced skiers wanting deep powder. Beginners better served at smaller Japanese resorts with less steep terrain.

Getting There

Fly to New Chitose Airport (Sapporo). Direct buses to Niseko: ¥3,500–4,500, 2.5 hours. Or rent a 4WD car — essential for Hokkaido winter driving. — book via Kiwi.com for the best deal.
