How to Get from Tokyo to Hiroshima

Shinkansen (Best Option)

Nozomi: 3h50min, ¥18,380. Fastest, NOT JR Pass covered.
Hikari: ~4h20min, ¥18,380. JR Pass covered ✓. Same price, just slower.
Both depart from Tokyo Station every 15–30 minutes.

Highway Bus

11–12 hours overnight, ¥6,000–10,000. Excellent overnight option — depart late evening, arrive Hiroshima early morning. Saves accommodation cost.

Budget Airlines

1h25min flight + airport time = 4h+ total. ¥8,000–15,000 including transfers. Not usually cheaper or faster door-to-door than shinkansen. — book a Kiwi.com in advance for the best price.

Adding Miyajima

Most visitors combine with Miyajima island (floating torii gate). From Hiroshima Station: 40 min by JR Sanyo Line + ferry. Plan at least a full day for Hiroshima + Miyajima.

Recommended Itinerary

Take 7am Hikari from Tokyo, arrive Hiroshima by 11:30am. Afternoon: Peace Memorial. Day 2: Miyajima island. Return shinkansen Day 3.
