What Is a Ryokan?
A traditional Japanese inn — tatami floors, futon beds, yukata robes, communal or private onsen baths, and multi-course kaiseki dinner served in your room. The most distinctly Japanese accommodation experience.
Price Ranges
Luxury: ¥30,000–150,000+/person/night including meals. Private onsen in room, artful kaiseki cuisine.
Mid-range: ¥15,000–30,000/person with meals. Excellent value traditional experience.
Budget: ¥6,000–12,000/person, meals often optional. Found throughout Japan outside major cities.

When to Book
Popular ryokan in Hakone, Kyoto, and Nikko book out months ahead during cherry blossom season (March–April) and November. Book 3–6 months ahead for premium properties during peak season.
