Hiroshima Day Trip from Kyoto

Getting There

Shinkansen Hikari: Kyoto → Hiroshima: 1h46min, ¥11,090. JR Pass covered ✓.
Shinkansen Nozomi: 1h28min, same price — faster but NOT JR Pass valid.
First train: Around 6:30am from Kyoto — take this for a full day.

Suggested Itinerary

6:30am — Depart Kyoto.
8:15am — Arrive Hiroshima. Tram to Peace Memorial Park.
8:30–11:00am — Peace Memorial Museum and Park. Allow 2 hours minimum — it’s one of the most significant war history museums in the world.
11:30am — Hiroshima oysters or Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (with noodles inside — different from Osaka style).
1:30pm — Miyajima island (via Hiroshima Station, 30 min total to the torii gate).
4:30pm — Return to Hiroshima Station.
5:30pm — Shinkansen back to Kyoto (arrive ~7:15pm).

The museum was renovated in 2019 and is now more personal and powerful than ever. Treat it with solemnity — it’s genuinely moving and important.
