Phu Quoc Island Guide

Introduction

Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island and its premier beach destination. Long stretches of white sand, clear water (particularly on the west coast), excellent snorkeling, and a rapidly developing resort infrastructure.

Best Beaches

Long Beach (Bai Truong): The main beach. 20km of sand on the west coast. Best in dry season (November–April). Home to most resorts and restaurants.

Sao Beach (Bai Sao): Widely considered Phu Quoc’s most beautiful beach. Fine white sand, turquoise water, relatively undeveloped. 30 minutes from Duong Dong town.

Ong Lang Beach: Quieter than Long Beach. More boutique resorts, good snorkeling.

Ganh Dau Beach: Northern tip. Local fishing village, beautiful but limited facilities.

Snorkeling and Diving

Phu Quoc’s coral reefs are excellent, particularly around the An Thoi Archipelago (southern islands).

Best snorkeling: An Thoi Islands day trip. Boat tour visiting 3–4 islands with snorkeling stops. ฿350,000–500,000 VND including lunch.

Diving: Multiple dive schools in Duong Dong. PADI Open Water from $250–350.

Phu Quoc Specialties

Fish sauce: Phu Quoc produces Vietnam’s finest nuoc mam (fish sauce). Visit a factory for a tour.

Pepper: Phu Quoc black pepper is among Vietnam’s best. Visit pepper farms.

Seafood: Fresh, abundant, excellent value at Duong Dong Night Market.
