Vietnam eVisa vs E-visa vs Visa on Arrival: What’s the Difference?
Vietnam now has one primary online visa system — the eVisa. The old “visa on arrival” required a pre-approval letter; this has largely been replaced by the eVisa for eligible nationalities.
—
Entry Ports That Accept Vietnam eVisa
The eVisa is accepted at all major international airports and most land border crossings:
Airports: Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang, Cam Ranh (Nha Trang), Phu Quoc, Khanh Hoa
Land borders: Moc Bai (Cambodia), Lao Cai (China), Mong Cai (China) and others
Sea ports: Multiple ports including Chan May (Da Nang) and Phu My (Ho Chi Minh City)

90-Day Stay: Can You Extend?
The eVisa grants 90 days. Extensions are possible but require applying in person at a Vietnamese immigration office. The process is straightforward but takes several days.
For stays beyond 90 days, a business visa (DN) or other long-stay visa is required.

Vietnam Digital Nomad: Current Status
Vietnam does not yet have an official digital nomad visa (2025). Most long-term visitors use successive 90-day eVisas with a brief exit and re-entry between periods. Rules are not always consistently enforced but frequent visa runs draw attention.

Arrival Tips
- Print your eVisa document — some border officers still prefer paper
- Have accommodation address ready for immigration form
- Keep eVisa and passport together
- Processing time at Noi Bai (Hanoi) international can be slow — allow extra time
