Which Section to Visit

Mutianyu — best for most visitors. Beautifully restored, scenic, cable car option, toboggan descent. Entry CNY 65 + cable car CNY 120 return. 70km from Beijing.
Badaling — most famous, most crowded. Best infrastructure but can be overwhelmingly busy. Entry CNY 40–65. 30 min by high-speed train from Beijing North.
Jinshanling — best for hikers. Less restored, dramatic, 2–3 hour hiking option. Entry CNY 65. 130km from Beijing.

Best Time to Visit

Spring (April–May) — green hills, manageable crowds. Ideal.
Autumn (Sept–Oct) — spectacular foliage but very crowded during Golden Week (Oct 1–7).
Winter — snow-covered wall is magical, very few tourists, extremely cold.

Practical Tips

  • Book tickets online in advance — daily limits apply
  • Go early (before 9am) to beat crowds
  • Wear comfortable shoes with grip
  • Avoid Chinese national holidays completely
