Ayung River vs Telaga Waja

Ayung River (near Ubud) — 9km, grade 2–3, suitable for beginners and families (ages 7+). Jungle gorge with waterfalls and stone carvings. IDR 350,000–500,000 including transport, guide, lunch. 2 hours on water.

Telaga Waja (east Bali) — 13km, grade 3–4, more challenging and scenic. Fewer tourists. IDR 450,000–600,000. Not for non-swimmers. Full day including transfers.

What to Expect

  1. Safety briefing and equipment fitting (helmet, life jacket, paddle)
  2. Navigate rapids through jungle with guide
  3. Exit, shower, change, eat included lunch

Can Non-Swimmers Do It?

Yes for Ayung — life jackets mandatory, guides experienced, rapids manageable. Not recommended for Telaga Waja.

Tips

  • Wear swimsuit under quick-dry clothes, closed-toe sandals
  • Leave valuables at accommodation
  • Book the day before — fills up in peak season
  • Avoid during heavy rainfall — rivers can close
