Bali offers some of Southeast Asia’s best paragliding — thermal-rich air above dramatic clifftops with views over the Indian Ocean, rice terraces, and volcanic mountains. You don’t need any experience — tandem flights with certified instructors are safe and accessible.

Best Paragliding Spots

Timbis (Uluwatu)

The most popular paragliding site in Bali — a clifftop launch above Timbis Beach on the Bukit Peninsula. Thermal conditions are excellent, and the view over the southern coastline is spectacular. Fly over dramatic limestone cliffs with the Indian Ocean stretching to the horizon.

Flight duration: 20–30 minutes for standard tandem
Cost: IDR 700,000–1,200,000 ($45–80) for tandem flight
Operators: Several licensed operators run from the launch site. Bali Paragliding and FlyBali are well-regarded.
Best time: April–October (dry season, most reliable thermals). 9am–12pm best for smooth conditions.

Bedugul (Lake Bratan Area)

Highland paragliding above the caldera lakes and rice terraces of central Bali. Different scenery from coastal — cooler temperatures, mountain backdrop. Less established than Timbis but offers unique views.

What to Expect

1. Brief safety briefing from your instructor
2. Harness fitting
3. Short running launch from the cliff edge
4. 20–30 minute flight with the instructor controlling everything
5. You can take the controls briefly if you want
6. Gentle landing on the beach or designated field below

Is It Safe?

Tandem paragliding with a certified pilot is generally safe. Book with operators who have PGAI (Paragliding Association of Indonesia) certified pilots and modern equipment. Check recent reviews before booking. Avoid the absolute cheapest operators.

Practical Tips

• Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes
• Avoid flying on extremely windy days — good operators will reschedule
• GoPro footage often included — check before booking if video matters to you
• Weight limits typically 40–100kg — confirm with operator
• Book directly at the launch site or through your accommodation
