The Honest Introduction
Pattaya has a complicated reputation — it’s simultaneously one of Thailand’s most visited cities and one of the most avoided by certain types of travelers. The red light district (Walking Street) is globally notorious. But Pattaya also has genuinely good beaches nearby, some excellent activities, and has undergone significant development in recent years.
This guide gives you an honest picture.

What Pattaya Actually Offers
Koh Larn (Coral Island)
The main reason beach lovers visit Pattaya. A 30-minute speedboat ride from Bali Hai Pier. Clear water, good snorkeling, beautiful beaches (Tawaen Beach is the main one). Day trips ฿300–500.
Water Parks
Cartoon Network Amazone: Large water park. Good for families. ฿900–1,200.
Ramayana Water Park: Excellent, less crowded than Cartoon Network. ฿900.
Sanctuary of Truth
An extraordinary all-wood temple built entirely without metal fasteners. Still under construction since 1981. Genuinely impressive. ฿500.
Underwater World Pattaya
Marine aquarium. Fine for families or rainy days. ฿450.

Beaches
Pattaya Beach (the main city beach) is not attractive — polluted, crowded with vendors, not for swimming. Jomtien Beach (5km south) is calmer and cleaner. Koh Larn is far better than any mainland Pattaya beach.
