Bali Waterfalls Guide

Why Visit Bali’s Waterfalls?

Bali’s interior is defined by rivers fed by the central volcanic mountains, creating spectacular waterfalls accessible within 1–2 hours of the main tourist areas. The lush tropical jungle setting makes each one extraordinary.

Sekumpul Waterfall

The most spectacular waterfall in Bali — a cluster of 5–7 separate falls descending into a jungle canyon. The main fall is approximately 80 meters.

Getting there: North-central Bali, 2 hours from Ubud. Guided trek required — about 30–40 minutes down through rice fields and jungle, steep return. Entry fee approximately Rp 20,000.

Best time: Wet season (November–March) for maximum water flow. Dry season (May–September) for easier access paths.

Gitgit Waterfall

The most accessible major waterfall in Bali. North coast near Singaraja. A 10-minute easy walk from the road.

Single drop of approximately 35 meters. Good swimming hole at the base. Can get crowded. Entry Rp 15,000.

Tegenungan Waterfall

The most visited — easy access (few minutes walk from car park), strong flow year-round, good swimming. Near Ubud (30 minutes).

Entry Rp 15,000. Crowded midday — go early morning.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall

Hidden gem near Bangli. The waterfall descends through a narrow slot canyon — light shafts through the opening at the top create extraordinary photography at certain times of day (10am–11am optimal).

Requires a descent into the canyon — stone steps, some rope assistance. Entry Rp 15,000.

Nungnung Waterfall

One of Bali’s most powerful waterfalls. 160 meters drop. The descent to the base is steep (400+ steps) — strenuous but worth it. Entry Rp 15,000.

Practical Tips

Go early: Most waterfalls become crowded by 10am. Arrive at 7–8am.

Wear quick-dry clothes or swimwear: Getting wet is inevitable and part of the experience.

Slippery paths: Wear shoes with grip. Flip flops are insufficient for most waterfall treks.

Guides: For Sekumpul, a local guide (Rp 200,000–300,000) is required and worth having for safety and navigation.

Wet season is better: More water, more dramatic. Paths may be muddier.
