Getting There
JR Yokosuka or Shonan-Shinjuku Line: Tokyo/Shinjuku → Kamakura: 55–58 min, ¥920–940. JR Pass covered ✓. Trains every 10–15 min.
Must-See
Kotoku-in (Great Buddha): 13-meter bronze Daibutsu, one of Japan’s largest outdoor Buddhist statues (1252). Entry ¥300. 10-min bus or 30-min walk from Kamakura Station.
Temple Hiking Trail: Daibutsu Hiking Trail through forested hills, connecting the Great Buddha to Kita-Kamakura station. ~2 hours. Less crowded than the main tourist route. Comfortable shoes required.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine: Main shrine at the end of Kamakura’s main boulevard. Free entry.
Hase-dera Temple: Famous large wooden Kannon goddess statue. ¥400.
Enoshima Extension
The Enoden electric railway connects Kamakura to Enoshima island — scenic coastal tram, 25 min, ¥350. Lighthouse, cave system, seafood restaurants. Easy to add to a longer day trip.
