Japan e-Visa System

Japan’s electronic visa allows eligible nationalities to apply online rather than visiting a consulate. Available to citizens of 60+ countries as of 2025.

Citizens of USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and most EU countries receive 90 days visa-free on arrival. If visa-free, no application needed. Check the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (mofa.go.jp) before applying.

How to Apply

1. Visit the Japan e-Visa portal at your country’s Japan embassy website
2. Create an account with your email
3. Complete the application form (personal info, travel details, itinerary)
4. Upload documents: passport bio page, passport photo, flight itinerary, accommodation bookings
5. Pay the fee (~¥3,000 / $20 USD)
6. Wait 5–7 business days for processing
7. Download and print your e-visa certificate

Required Documents

• Valid passport (6+ months remaining)
• Digital passport photo (white background)
• Return flight booking
• Accommodation booking for each night
• Bank statement or proof of funds

Processing Time

Standard: 5–7 business days. Apply at least 2 weeks before travel to allow buffer time for document requests.
