The numbers have changed
Bali’s post-pandemic pricing reality is different from the numbers floating around on nomad blogs from 2019–2021. The demand surge from remote workers has pushed up certain costs significantly, particularly accommodation in Canggu. Here’s what things actually cost in 2025.
Rent
The biggest variable. A decent studio or one-bedroom in central Canggu: $700–1,200/month. Further out (Pererenan, Seseh, Cemagi): $400–700/month for similar quality. Ubud: $400–800/month depending on location and view. Seminyak: similar to central Canggu. Amed or Lovina (north Bali): $300–500/month. Renting direct through local agents rather than Airbnb typically saves 20–30% on monthly rates.
Food
Eating at warungs (Indonesian food): IDR 25,000–50,000 per meal — around $1.50–3. Eating at Western cafes in Canggu: IDR 80,000–200,000 per meal. Cooking at home (villa with kitchen): similar to any mid-range city. Monthly food budget: $200–400 if eating mixed; $100–150 if eating almost exclusively warung food.
Transport
Scooter rental: IDR 1,500,000–2,500,000/month ($95–160). Grab budget: depends entirely on how much you move around — IDR 500,000–1,500,000/month for regular use. Many monthly residents just own a scooter — second-hand 110cc scooter: IDR 8,000,000–15,000,000. — book via Localrent for the best deal.
Monthly total estimates
Budget (outer neighborhood, mostly warung food, scooter): $600–900/month. Comfortable (central Canggu, mixed eating, scooter): $1,200–1,800/month. Comfortable with lifestyle spending (beach clubs, nice dinners occasionally): $2,000–3,000/month.
