Finding Cheap Villas in Bali: What’s Possible and Where

Finding Cheap Villas in Bali: What’s Possible and Where

The villa dream at non-dream prices

Bali has more private villas with pools per square kilometer than almost anywhere on earth — and the market is competitive enough that genuinely affordable options exist. The trick is knowing where to look and being flexible on location.

The location premium

A private one-bedroom villa with pool in Canggu’s core (near Berawa Beach or the main strip): $100–200/night. The same villa 10 minutes north in Pererenan or Seseh: $60–100/night. Same quality, different Instagram location value. For most purposes, the outer neighborhoods are equally good — Canggu’s restaurants and beach are a short scooter ride away.

Similarly: Ubud’s main street villas cost a premium. 15 minutes into the rice terrace countryside around Ubud, you find extraordinary villas for $60–100/night with panoramic valley views.

Where to search

Airbnb has the widest Bali villa selection and actual reviews. For longer stays (a week or more), direct booking through the villa’s own site or WhatsApp often gets a 10–20% discount off the Airbnb price because there’s no platform fee. Message the property directly after finding it on Airbnb and ask for their direct rate.

Klook has curated villa packages that can work out well for specific areas. Booking.com has many Bali villas in the mid-range.

Shoulder season pricing

Peak Bali season is July–August and Christmas–New Year. Prices in these windows are 50–100% higher than the rest of the year. Visit April–June or September–November for the same or better weather (dry season runs April–October) at significantly lower prices. May and September are my preferred months — dry, less crowded, best villa rates.
