Cambodia Visa: e-Visa, Visa on Arrival, and What You Need

Multiple easy options for most nationalities

Cambodia offers both e-visa and visa on arrival options for most nationalities — entry is generally straightforward. Here is the practical breakdown.

e-Visa (recommended)

Apply at evisa.gov.kh before travel. Cost: $36 USD. Processing: 3 business days. Valid for 30 days, single entry. You receive an e-visa approval by email — print it and present at immigration. Faster processing at the airport compared to visa on arrival. Recommended for anyone planning ahead.

Visa on arrival

Available at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international airports and some land border crossings. Cost: $30 USD tourist visa (single entry, 30 days). Requires: passport photo, completed arrival card, cash in USD. Process at a dedicated counter before the main immigration line. Works well but the queue can be slow when multiple flights arrive simultaneously.

Extension

Extend at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh or through visa agents in major tourist cities. Cost: approximately $45 through an agent (including agent fee) for an additional 30 days. Cambodia is generally flexible about extensions — overstaying costs $10/day at departure rather than serious consequences, though you should still extend properly.

Land borders

Poipet (Thailand-Cambodia), Bavet (Vietnam-Cambodia), and other crossings are popular entry points. Visa on arrival is available at most major crossings. The Poipet crossing in particular has a well-documented “unofficial fee” problem where touts try to charge for forms and processing — be firm about paying only the official $30 at the official window.
