Cambodia e-Visa: Simple Process, Important Details

One of Southeast Asia’s easiest visa applications

Cambodia’s e-visa is straightforward and inexpensive — apply at evisa.gov.kh, pay $36 USD, wait 3 business days, receive approval by email. Print it and present at border entry. The process works well and I’ve used it multiple times without issues.

Who needs it

Most nationalities need a visa to enter Cambodia. The e-visa is the easiest route for citizens of most Western countries, many Asian countries, and others. Check evisa.gov.kh for the full eligible nationality list — some nationalities cannot use the e-visa and must apply at a Cambodian embassy, or can only get visa on arrival.

Visa on Arrival: the alternative

Available at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international airports and some land borders. $30 for a tourist visa, single entry, 30 days. Requires a passport photo. No need to apply in advance. This works fine but the e-visa is usually faster at the airport.

Extension

The standard tourist visa allows 30 days and can be extended for another 30 days at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh or through visa agents throughout the country. Extension fee: approximately $45 through an agent. Overstaying Cambodia’s visa incurs a $10/day fine at the border on departure.
