Vietnam e-Visa: Which Countries Are Eligible?

Vietnam e-Visa: Which Countries Are Eligible?

The list is longer than most people think

Vietnam significantly expanded its e-visa program in 2023, and the current list of eligible countries covers most of the Western world and many other nationalities. Here’s what you need to know.

Eligible nationalities (major ones)

All EU member states, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, most of Southeast Asia, India, and 80+ countries total. The full current list is at the Vietnam Immigration Department website (xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). This is the only reliable source — the list changes periodically.

Countries with visa-free access (no e-visa needed)

Some nationalities don’t even need the e-visa: Thailand (30 days), Philippines (30 days), Malaysia (30 days), Singapore (30 days), Indonesia (30 days), and several others. ASEAN neighbors generally have visa-free arrangements. Japanese and Korean citizens get longer visa-free periods under bilateral agreements.

Countries still requiring traditional visa

A smaller group of nationalities requires in-person visa applications at Vietnamese embassies or consulates. This list is shrinking. If your country isn’t on the e-visa eligible list, contact the Vietnamese embassy directly for current requirements.

The 90-day rule

Vietnam’s e-visa allows up to 90 days per entry and multiple entries. This is genuinely generous — it covers nearly any tourism trip and allows you to leave and re-enter Vietnam multiple times within the visa validity period. Extending beyond 90 days requires a separate visa application inside Vietnam at a local immigration office.
