Singapore’s most iconic structure, honestly assessed
Marina Bay Sands is simultaneously an architectural achievement, a luxury hotel, a casino, and one of Singapore’s main tourist attractions. The rooftop SkyPark with its famous infinity pool is the image that defines it. Here’s how to experience it without the $600+/night room rate.
The SkyPark observation deck (without a room)
Non-guests can access the SkyPark Observation Deck (not the pool — that’s hotel guests only) for SGD $26–29. The 57th floor views of Marina Bay, the city skyline, and the Gardens by the Bay Supertrees are genuinely extraordinary, particularly at sunset or just after dark when the city lights up. The viewing platform faces north toward the bay — the best views are from the outer edges. Worth doing once.
The infinity pool reality
The famous infinity pool is hotel guests only. You cannot use it as a day visitor. The observation deck views look across to the pool from a different angle rather than giving you pool access. This disappoints many visitors who didn’t read carefully — be clear on what the SGD $26 gets you before buying.
What else is at MBS
The casino (passport required, SGD $100 entry fee for locals, free for foreigners). The mall (Channel, Louis Vuitton, Prada — not for budget travelers). The ArtScience Museum (combined lotus-flower building, changing exhibitions, SGD $14–20). Celebrity chef restaurants at prices that match the setting. CÉ LA VI bar on the 57th floor of the tower (not the hotel SkyPark — a separate venue with a different access path) has good cocktails and the views at an SGD $30–50 spend rather than the deck fee.
