Singapore Visa: Quick Answer
Most visitors do not need a visa for Singapore. Citizens of over 160 countries can enter visa-free. Singapore has some of the most open entry policies in the world — if you hold a passport from the USA, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, or most other developed nations, you’ll get a 30 or 90-day visa-free stay upon arrival.
Who Gets Visa-Free Entry
90 Days Visa-Free
Citizens of most Western countries, EU member states, Japan, South Korea, and many others get 90 days automatically on arrival.
30 Days Visa-Free
Citizens of many Asian, South American, and African countries receive 30 days visa-free. This includes India, China (with some conditions), and many others.
Visa Required in Advance
A small number of nationalities require a visa before arrival. Check the official ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority) website for your specific country.
Entry Requirements (Even for Visa-Free Entry)
- Valid passport with at least 6 months validity
- Return or onward ticket
- Sufficient funds (no set amount, but SGD 500–1,000 per week is a reasonable guideline)
- Accommodation address (have this ready)
- Disembarkation/Embarkation card (SG Arrival Card) — now completed online before arrival
SG Arrival Card (SGAC)
Since 2023, Singapore requires all visitors to complete the SG Arrival Card online within 3 days before arrival. It’s free and takes 5 minutes at the ICA website (eservices.ica.gov.sg). You’ll get a QR code to show at immigration.
APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC)
Holders of the ABTC card can use the fast-track immigration lanes at Changi Airport — worth knowing if you travel frequently for business.
Extending Your Stay
Extensions are generally not available for tourist visits to Singapore. The 30 or 90 day allowance is fixed. If you need longer, you’ll need to depart and re-enter (though this is watched — frequent same-day re-entries raise red flags).
Changi Airport Immigration Tips
- Complete your SGAC before flying — it speeds things up significantly
- Automated gates (AutoGate) available for many nationalities using biometrics — much faster than manual counters
- Immigration at Changi is usually very fast — 5–15 minutes even at peak times
- Singapore is strict about overstaying — always leave before your authorized period expires
