The free and the paid parts
Gardens by the Bay is Singapore’s most spectacular horticultural achievement and most photographed attraction — 101 hectares of reclaimed land with the iconic Supertree Grove, two glass-domed conservatories, and an elevated walkway connecting the giant steel trees. Understanding which parts are free and which require tickets significantly improves your planning.
What’s free
The outdoor Supertree Grove (including walking between the trees on the ground level), the Dragonfly and Kingfisher Lakes, the Flower Field viewpoint from the Marina Barrage. The Supertree light show (Garden Rhapsody) runs daily at 7:45pm and 8:45pm and is free — this is the classic Singapore night experience. Walk under the trees as they light up and listen to the music. It’s genuinely spectacular and doesn’t require paying anything.
What costs money
OCBC Skyway (walkway connecting the Supertrees at 22 meters height): SGD $8. Worth doing once for the perspective. Flower Dome conservatory: SGD $12–20 depending on current exhibition. Cloud Forest conservatory: same pricing. Both are extraordinary — the Cloud Forest especially, with a 35-meter indoor waterfall inside a domed rainforest. Combined ticket: SGD $28–38. If you’re only doing one, Cloud Forest is more dramatic.
Practical tips
The gardens are on the Marina Bay waterfront — walkable from Marina Bay Sands or Gardens by the Bay MRT (Thomson-East Coast Line). Avoid the 12–3pm heat; evenings are the best time for both the comfortable temperature and the light show. Buy conservatory tickets online in advance for the discounted price and to avoid queues.
