Two of Asia’s great cities, three hours apart (by air)
Singapore and Bangkok are natural travel companions — different enough to be interesting, close enough to combine in one trip. Getting between them is easy and there are more options than most people know about.
Flying: the standard choice
Singapore to Bangkok is about 2h20min. Multiple flights daily with Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, AirAsia, Scoot, and budget carriers. Prices range from SGD 80–300+ depending on carrier and booking time. It’s genuinely competitive — check Aviasales for the full range and compare. Budget airlines fly into Don Mueang (Bangkok’s second airport); flag carriers into Suvarnabhumi. — book a Kiwi.com in advance for the best price.
Overland: the adventurous option
It’s possible to travel overland from Singapore to Bangkok via the Malaysian peninsula, and it’s a genuinely great journey if you have the time. Singapore → KL by bus or train → Hat Yai or Ko Samui by train → Bangkok. Allow 2–3 days for the full overland route, or 36–48 hours if going direct by sleeper train. The Eastern & Oriental Express luxury train also does this route occasionally, if budget allows.
The overnight sleeper combination
Singapore → KL by bus (4.5 hours, SGD 20–35) → overnight train KL to Bangkok (around 24 hours total, with a transfer at Hat Yai). This is my favorite option when I have time — Malaysia’s train system is comfortable and the Hat Yai to Bangkok overnight sleeper is one of the better train journeys I’ve done.
What I’d choose
Short trip: fly. Budget focus with time: the bus/train combination through Malaysia. Adventure with a week spare: the full overland journey including stops in Penang and Koh Samui.
