Best WiFi in Asia: Where Internet Actually Works

Best WiFi in Asia: Where Internet Actually Works

The countries that make remote work possible

Not all of Asia is created equal for internet reliability. If you’re working remotely or simply relying on data for navigation and communication, knowing which countries have strong infrastructure and which have patchy coverage matters for trip planning.

South Korea: world’s fastest

South Korea consistently has the fastest average internet speeds globally. 5G coverage is nearly universal in cities. Café WiFi regularly tests above 300mbps. Not cheap to live in, but the internet infrastructure is world-class.

Japan: fast and ubiquitous

Japan’s fiber internet infrastructure is excellent — most accommodation and coworking spaces have 100–500mbps connections. The challenge is finding English-language connectivity options (pocket WiFi rental is the historical solution; eSIM is the modern one). In rural areas, speed drops but remains functional. — book a Yesim eSIM in advance for the best price.

Singapore: stable and reliable

Excellent infrastructure, near-universal WiFi in public spaces and accommodation. Consistent and fast by regional standards. Free public WiFi (Wireless@SG) in many public areas.

Thailand (cities): generally good

Chiang Mai and Bangkok have reliable coworking infrastructure and good café WiFi. Mobile data is fast and cheap. Rural Thailand and islands can be slower — check specific accommodation reviews before booking for remote work.

Vietnam: improving fast

Hanoi and HCMC have improved significantly — most cafés have WiFi adequate for video calls. FPT fiber is fast where available. The island destinations (Ha Long Bay, Phu Quoc) can be patchy. Use eSIM as a backup to café WiFi for reliability.
