Taiwan Visa Requirements: Entry for All Nationalities

Visa-free for most Western visitors

Taiwan (Republic of China) offers visa-free entry to citizens of most Western countries and many others. The entry process is straightforward and immigration is efficient at Taoyuan International Airport.

Visa-free countries and durations

USA, Canada, UK, EU member states, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea: visa-free for 90 days. Most Western countries have the 90-day entitlement. Some countries get 30 days. Check the Bureau of Consular Affairs website (boca.gov.tw) for your specific nationality.

What you need on arrival

Valid passport (6+ months validity). Onward or return ticket (required — airlines check this at check-in). Proof of accommodation for at least a few days. Sufficient funds (NT$3,000/day or equivalent as a guideline). No advance application required for visa-free nationalities — simply arrive and proceed through immigration.

Nationalities requiring a visa

A limited group of nationalities requires a visa — apply at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) or equivalent in your country. The Republic of China has limited formal diplomatic relations, so the TECO offices handle consular functions in most countries.

Extension

Extend at the National Immigration Agency (NIA) in Taipei or major cities. Extensions available for up to 30 additional days. Cost: NT$1,000. Straightforward process with minimal documentation required.

Getting around on arrival

Taoyuan Airport MRT to Taipei Main Station: 35 minutes, NT$160. Efficient and comfortable. Get an EasyCard on arrival for transport throughout your stay. Airalo has reliable Taiwan eSIM plans if you need data immediately on landing.
