2 Weeks in Southeast Asia: Routes That Actually Make Sense

2 Weeks in Southeast Asia: Routes That Actually Make Sense

Two weeks is enough for one country done well, or two countries done quickly

This is the honest version: two weeks in Southeast Asia is a highlight reel rather than a deep experience. That’s fine — highlights are worth seeing. But going in with realistic expectations about what you’ll actually experience prevents the disappointment of feeling like you never quite got below the surface.

Option 1: Thailand focus (2 weeks)

Bangkok 3 nights → overnight train to Chiang Mai → 4 nights Chiang Mai → fly to Koh Tao or Koh Samui → 5 nights on the island → fly back to Bangkok. This covers three completely different versions of Thailand and feels genuinely satisfying without the rushing-between-countries problem. — book a Kiwi.com in advance for the best price.

Option 2: Vietnam north to south (2 weeks)

Fly into Hanoi → 3 nights Hanoi + Ha Long Bay day → overnight train or fly to Da Nang → Hoi An 3 nights → fly HCMC → 3 nights HCMC. Tight but workable. This is the most common Vietnam itinerary and for good reason.

Option 3: Singapore + Bali (2 weeks)

Singapore 3 nights → fly to Bali → 10 nights Bali (split between Ubud and Seminyak or Canggu). Bali needs time to actually experience rather than tick off. This combination works well and neither city feels rushed.

What to avoid

Thailand + Vietnam + Cambodia + Bali in two weeks. I’ve seen this itinerary sold as a package and it results in travelers who’ve touched four countries without experiencing any of them properly. The transport time alone eats a significant fraction of the holiday.
