Myanmar Visa Requirements: Entry in 2025

Requirements have changed significantly since 2021

Myanmar’s visa requirements and entry procedures have changed following the 2021 coup and subsequent instability. Always verify current requirements with official sources before travel — the situation is fluid.

Current visa situation

Myanmar temporarily suspended its e-visa system following the coup and has partially reinstated it. As of 2025, tourists from most Western countries can apply for an e-visa through the official Myanmar e-Visa portal (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Single-entry tourist visa: $50, valid for 28 days. Processing: 3 working days. However, given the political situation, many countries’ foreign affairs ministries advise against travel to Myanmar — check your government’s current advisory.

Visa on arrival

Visa on arrival at Yangon International Airport was available for some nationalities before the coup. The current availability of this option should be verified with the Myanmar embassy or consulate in your country before travel.

Entry points

Yangon International Airport is the primary entry point for air travel. Some land border crossings are open to tourists, though the situation varies. Avoid entering through conflict-affected areas.

Practical note

ATMs in Myanmar are unreliable and international cards often do not work. Bring sufficient USD in new, unmarked bills. Euros and other currencies are less widely accepted. Currency exchange at official exchange counters in Yangon is preferable to street exchange.
