Important: Current Situation
Myanmar has been under military junta control since the February 2021 coup, with ongoing civil conflict in many regions. Check your government’s current travel advisory before planning any trip to Myanmar. Most Western governments advise against non-essential travel.
This guide is for reference and for future travelers when the situation improves.

Bagan
Myanmar’s most extraordinary site — over 2,000 Buddhist temples covering a 40km² plain, built 9th–13th centuries. The sunrise and sunset views from the pagoda plains are among Asia’s most spectacular. Hot air balloons operate seasonally.
Inle Lake
A lake in Shan State where leg-rowing fishermen work. Floating gardens, stilted villages, unique Intha culture. Check current accessibility.
Yangon
Myanmar’s largest city. The Shwedagon Pagoda — one of the world’s most significant Buddhist sites, 98 meters of gold-plated stupa.

Practical Note
Revenue from tourism partially funds the military government. Travelers should research the ethical implications and consult organizations working in Myanmar before visiting.
