Introduction
Ella is a small mountain village in Sri Lanka’s tea country — surrounded by mist-covered peaks, colonial-era tea plantations, and the extraordinary Nine Arch Bridge where a century-old stone railway viaduct spans a forest valley. At 1,000m elevation, the temperature is refreshingly cool year-round.

Top Experiences
Nine Arch Bridge (Demodara Viaduct)
The most photographed spot in Sri Lanka. A perfect stone arch viaduct built during the British colonial era without any steel — only cement, stone, and bricks. The bridge is best photographed with a train crossing it.
Train schedule: Check at Ella station for Colombo-bound and Badulla-bound train times. Allow 30 minutes walk from town.
Little Adam’s Peak
A 2-hour hike from Ella town. At the summit (1,141m): panoramic views over the valley, tea estates, and Ella Rock behind. Moderate difficulty. Start early morning for clear views before mist rolls in.
Ella Rock
More demanding than Little Adam’s Peak. 3–4 hours round trip. Requires a guide (can get lost on the tea estate paths). Summit has extraordinary 360° views. Start very early (6am).
Tea Factory Visit
Several working tea factories nearby. Half-day tours show the full tea production process from leaf to cup. Demidoda Tea Factory and Uva Halpewatte are popular options.

By train from Colombo: 9 hours. Scenic, comfortable overnight option.
By bus: Faster than train (3–4 hours from Kandy) but misses the journey itself.
