Boracay Travel Guide

Is Boracay Worth Visiting in 2026?

Boracay was closed for 6 months in 2018 for environmental rehabilitation — an extraordinary government decision acknowledging the island had been overwhelmed and degraded by mass tourism. After reopening, strict environmental regulations have improved conditions.

Honest verdict: White Beach is still one of the finest beaches in the Philippines. The island is still more developed than most travelers prefer, but the rehabilitation genuinely helped. It’s worth visiting if you understand what it is — a beach resort island — and if you avoid the comparison to the quieter alternatives (El Nido, Siargao, Coron).

White Beach

4.7km of fine white sand along the western coast. Divided into three stations:

Station 1 (northern): Quietest, most upscale, best for walking with space.

Station 2 (central): Most developed, most restaurants and nightlife, most crowds.

Station 3 (southern): Budget accommodation area. More backpacker atmosphere.

Water quality: Clear and calm from October–May (southwest monsoon season). June–September: rough from the northeast side, but watersports on the east coast are perfect.

Bulabog Beach (East Side)

The kite surfing and windsurfing capital. When the northeast wind blows (October–April), Bulabog Beach has some of Asia’s best kite surfing conditions.

Kite surfing lessons: Available from multiple schools. Beginners: 3-hour introduction around ₱3,000.

Water Sports

Boracay has excellent water sports infrastructure:

Parasailing: ₱1,500–2,000

Banana boat: ₱300–500/person

Helmet diving: ₱1,500 (walk underwater, no certification needed)

Island hopping: ₱1,200–1,500 for shared tours

Getting to Boracay

From Manila: Fly to Caticlan Airport (1 hour, ₱500–2,000) then 10-minute boat. Alternatively fly to Kalibo Airport (1.5 hours flight + 2-hour bus + boat — cheaper).
